David Kring studies planetary geology and cosmochemistry. His research explores the origin of the solar nebula and its evolution into a geologically active planetary system and the geologic history of the Earth, Moon, Mars, and several smaller planetary bodies. He has studied the chemical and physical properties of meteorites, as well as impact cratering on the Earth, its effect on Earth's environment, and its possible role in the biological evolution of our planet. In addition, he is involved in NASA's astrobiology program and a member of a science team for a surface chemistry instrument on the Mars Polar Lander spacecraft.
