Michael Evans is interested in observing the pre-industrial, presumably natural, climate variability, with the long-term goal of putting present and future trends in context. He employs tools from proxy paleoclimatology and objective analysis. His work includes the construction of new paleoproxy data from the isotopic composition of corals and tree rings, use of these and all other available paleoproxy data to form the most consistent picture of past climate, and analysis of the inferred paleoclimate dynamics, with special interest in the ocean-atmosphere system.
