John Kupfer is a biogeographer and landscape ecologist with interests in forest ecosystem modeling and the use of GIS and remote sensing techniques. His research includes studies of the effects of channelization and leveeing on western Tennessee bottomland hardwood forests, the effects of an exotic insect and climate variability on high elevation forests in the Appalachians, regeneration patterns in milpas (shifting cultivation fields) in Belize, and restoration of semi-arid grasslands invaded by exotic lovegrasses.
