E. Philip Krider is known world-wide for his work on lightning and thunderstorm electricity. He led the group that developed the first gated, wideband magnetic direction-finders that are now the basis of the U.S. National Lightning Detection Network. Dr. Krider's research interests include the physics of lightning discharges, electrical structure of thunderstorms, cloud electrification, detecting and locating lightning on a regional, national, and global scale, lightning protection, and atmospheric electricity.
