Steven Leavitt applies stable isotope methods toward resolution of questions related to global and regional change. Isotope dendrochronology provides a novel instrument for reconstructing past environments. He is studying climate and teleconnections from carbon and oxygen isotopes in ponderosa pine in southern Arizona and New Mexico, soil organic carbon dynamics under FACE elevated CO2 conditions, and drought from carbon isotopes in tree rings.
