Global Change Faculty are the official faculty for the Global Change Graduate Interdisciplinary Program, a Ph.D. minor program. To serve as the Global Change minor representative on a graduate student's Ph.D. committee, you must be appointed to the Global Change Faculty by the Director of the Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs.
Who may join the Global Change Faculty?
Membership on the Global Change Faculty is open to faculty who participate in interdisciplinary global change research or teaching at the University of Arizona and/or who have a demonstrated current scholarly interest in the general area of global change. Appointed membership on the Global Change Faculty is required if you plan to mentor Global Change Ph.D. minor graduate students by serving as the Global Change GIDP representative on their minor committees.
How do I become a member?
Those interested in joining the Global Change Faculty should submit:
(a) a letter of request for membership (adressed "To the Global Change Executive Committee") which describes your research focus and reasons for wanting to join the Global Change faculty, and
(b) a current curriculum vitae.
Materials should be sent to the Global Change GIDP's Program Coordinator (Tina Gargus). After approval by the Global Change Executive Committee, nominees are recommended to the Director of the Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs, who confers membership to the GC Faculty. In order to ensure active faculty membership in the Global Change GIDP, appointments to the Global Change Faculty are reviewed periodically by the Executive Committee.
What are my responsibilities and opportunities as a member of the Global Change Faculty?
- You may serve as minor representatives on Ph.D. committees for students in the Ph.D. minor program in Global Change.
- You should become familiar with the requirements of the Global Change Ph.D. minor, and offer an appropriate global change perspective when serving on Ph.D. examination and dissertation committees as a GC minor advisor.
- You should act as conduits of information about the Ph.D. minor to academic unit and encourage participation in the GC GIDP.
- You should serve when asked to participate on ad hoc committees of the program (e.g., committee to review the GC GIDP Dissertation Improvement Grants).
- You may vote on matters brought to the GC Faculty by the Executive Committee.
- You may be asked periodically to provide information on your GIDP-related activities, according to University policies and procedures.
- You may be invited to serve as GC "Faculty Ambassadors" for your department or unit.
