Research Interests:

I am a PhD student in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment who focuses on ecology and rangeland management. My research centers on the patterns of biological soil crusts in the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts, techniques to monitor and assess biological crust communities, and the utility of soil crusts in restoration. Although they may look like dark and lumpy patches of dirt, the crusts are made up of tiny living organisms and are key to controlling erosion, boosting water retention, and enhancing soil fertility.I am also passionate about America’s public lands and the integration of science into land management decisions.
